How Massages Work
As your massage therapist works your muscles and soft tissues, they stimulate nerve receptors. The nerves then send signals to release tension in your muscles, which creates a feeling of relaxation. Massages can also prompt your brain to release endorphins, which reduce pain and increase your sense of well-being.

Absolutely amazing staff! The massage and cupping is AMAZING! We've done red light, the salt bed, cyro (not for me) and more. The facial wasn't what I was expecting but the provider was amazing! 10/10

I 100% recommend Scott at Thrive Wheeling! I had a massage with him today and I can move so much better. Not to mention my headache/migraine that was trying to come on today was alleviated. The combination of massage, cupping and stretching was great!

Scott is a most knowledgeable, personal, and yet talented massage therapist I have encountered. I will not go anywhere else!

Thrive is awesome! It’s nice to have this gem in Wheeling. Scott gives the best massages. I been seeing him for over a year, not long after being diagnosed with ALS. I believe that seeing him a couple times a month has helped my muscles. Massages and cupping help with my muscle twitches, aches, and fatigue. I also use the Red Light therapy and IV therapy offered there. Both have helped me in this journey. Im excited to start other therapies offered. Check it out, you won’t be sorry!!

I’ve seen Scott a couple times now for massage. I’m a massage therapist myself and have received numerous massages throughout the years from LMT’s all around. I can personally say I love the stretching he incorporates in his routine and look forward to our sessions. He’s one of the best around in my opinion.

This was my first trip in for services. Everyone was friendly, professional and attentive. So much going on but they all work together like a well oiled machine! What to expect from shots was explained well. Staff guided me through the process. I received several services today…two IM shots, red light therapy, cryo (all part of the detox protocol) and a massage. Best massage ever! Scott is a skilled professional! Thanks, Zack, for answering all my initial questions and getting me set up with the protocol!

Preparing for Your Massage
- Make a note of any areas where you feel pain or tension that you’d like your licensed massage therapist to work on.
- Drink lots of water to stay hydrated; well-hydrated muscles respond better to massage, giving you a more relaxing experience and lasting benefits.
Aftercare Steps
- Continue to drink plenty of water after your massage. The extra water will help flush out toxins and lactic acid, and dehydration can lead to pain and tension prematurely returning.
About Cupping
When you visit ThrIVe for a massage in Wheeling, you have the option to include cupping. Not sure what exactly cupping is or whether you should include it? Read on.
Cupping Basics
Cupping involves applying suctions to targeted areas using cups. The suction draws more blood flow to the targeted areas. An increase in blood flow brings extra oxygen and nutrients, and it can also provide pain relief to those areas.
If your massage includes cupping, your massage therapist—who is also a certified massage cupping practitioner—places the cups on the targeted areas. Then, using gentle suction, the cups pull on your skin. Your therapist will leave the cups in place for several minutes before removing them.
After cupping, it’s common to experience red or purple circles where the cups were applied. Unlike true bruising, which affects the underlying muscles, this is from broken capillaries in your skin. These are completely normal and will fade within the next 7 to 10 days.
Traditional Wellness With a Long History
Cupping is an ancient method of promoting health and wellness. The first records of cupping appear in an Egyptian medical textbook from 3,500 years ago! Besides Egypt, many people in China, Greece, Rome, and the Islamic World used cupping to improve their health and treat a variety of illnesses.
Up until the 1800s, cupping was also commonly practiced in Europe and America. While it fell out of fashion for a few centuries, its popularity has increased in recent years. Now, more and more people are discovering cupping’s whole-body benefits.
Many professional athletes use cupping to prepare for and recover from competitions. Famously, Michael Phelps appeared in the 2016 Olympics with visible cupping marks. He explained that he uses cupping before every meet to maximize his performance.
At ThrIVe, we’re proud to make cupping accessible to the Ohio Valley. If you’re ready to experience it for yourself, contact us to set up your massage in Wheeling.
What to Expect From Your Massage
At your massage appointment, we lead you to a private, serene massage room. Then we give you privacy to undress to your comfort level and lie down underneath the provided sheet.
Your massage therapist enters the room, and they will ask you briefly about any concerns, tension, or pain you’ve been experiencing. During the massage, you are free to make conversation, or you can simply relax.
If your massage includes cupping, your massage therapist can talk you through the process and let you know exactly what to expect. At the end of the massage, your massage therapist gives you privacy to re-dress, and then you return to your day.
If you’d like your massage therapist to apply more pressure, or if they haven’t quite hit the right spot, let them know! We want your massage in Wheeling to be the most relaxing and effective experience possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your massage should never cause pain, but you may have moments of discomfort as your massage therapist works on tight or tense muscles.
If at any point, this discomfort lasts more than a few seconds or exceeds your tolerance level, let your massage therapist know! We can take a break or change methods to ensure you have a relaxing experience.
You can visit us for a massage as often as you’d like! Depending on your concerns or goals, we may even recommend multiple sessions to work through a specific condition.
We don’t have any specific clothing requirements for your massage. You’ll have an opportunity to undress to your comfort level before the massage begins.
Our clients prefer varying levels of undress, but it’s totally fine to remain completely dressed as well! If you do, we recommend light, loose clothing that won’t restrict the massage therapist’s ability to manipulate and massage your muscles.
